Biography:
Nigel Wilson
Prof. Nigel Wilson is a Professor of Classics at Lincoln College, Oxford
University. In 1980, he was elected as a fellow of the British Academy.
His research focuses on Greek ancient philology and text collation. As a
paleographer, he made important contributions to the accurate dating of
Greek scripts from the Byzantine period. He is the collator of the
classical texts of Sophocles, Aristophanes, Herodotus, and various other
Greek classical authors in the “Oxford Classical Texts” series. His
research interests also include Byzantine literature. He will soon
publish his latest edition of Photius’ “The Bibliotheca”. Together with
the late Prof. Reynolds (Professor of Classical Studies at Oxford
University), Dr. Wilson co-authored “Scribes and Scholars”, an
influential academic masterpiece in the field of western classics. In
2015, the Peking University Press published the Chinese translation of
“Scribes and Scholars” as part of the “Western Classical Studies” book
series, which has attracted great interest from Chinese literature
academics.
