[Lecture] Epigenetic regulation in embryonic development, schizophrenia, and aging
Jul. 27, 2023

Speaker: Yi Zhang, Harvard Medical School and Boston Children's Hospital

Time: 13:00-14:30 p.m., July 27, 2023, GMT+8

Venue: Deng Youcai Hall

Abstract:

Epigenetic modifications play important roles in regulating gene expression, thus impact multi-ple biological processes, including embryonic development, human diseases, and nature aging process. In my seminar, I will first summarize our work in understanding the dynamic epigenetic and transcriptional changes at the very beginning of embryonic development, and then discussour recent progress on understanding schizophrenia and nature aging.

Biography:

Dr. Yi Zhang is an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and a Fred Rosen Chair Professor of the Department of Genetics and Department of Pediatrics of the Harvard Medical School & Boston Children's Hospital. His lab is responsible for the identification and characterization of several classes of epigenetic enzymes that include the nucleosome remodeling anddeacetylase (NuRD) complex, several histone methyltransferases (e.g. Ezh2/PRC2, DotlL), the JmiC-containing histone demethylases, his tone H2A ubiquitin E3 ligase PRC1, and the TETfamily of 5-methylcytosine dioxygenases. His current interests include epigenetic mechanisms of preimplantation development, tissue stem cell aging, and reward-related learning & memory. Hehas published more than 190 papers with more than 83K citations (H-index 117), which makes him one of the most influential scientists in the world.
