Abstract:
Climate finance is critical to addressing climate change because of the large-scale investments that are needed to transition to a low-carbon global economy and to help societies build resilience and adapt to the impacts of climate change. The objective of the course is to provide an overview of climate finance and how it is evolving along with the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Starting with a brief wrap up of the climate change problems, and the financial and technological needs, the course will delve into the modus operandi of climate finance, the database available, and the transformational change it is expected to deliver. Some insights will be provided from the cases of the European Union and China. How much of the financial and technological gaps can be solved with the current climate finance ecosystem, and what can be done about it, will conclude the presentation and open the discussion.
