Abstract: 

The inevitable end of Moore's law has been touted for decades, but over the last few years its proponents have been able to point to skyrocketing chip development costs, delays in new process availability, and rapidly approaching physical limits, as proof that the end is now. On the other hand, new transistor, memory & 3D stacking technologies, as well as new system architectural innovations, are being used to expand computing into new application Performance, Power, Area, and Cost (PPAC) domains, without the need to rely solely on Moore’s law holding on forever. Meanwhile, the rise of ML/AI and the ever-growing pervasiveness of computing, especially AI computing, is accentuating challenges in power scaling, security, privacy, safety, and reliability as they move to the forefront of key design concerns. This talk will examine the present and explore ways in which the future of computing might be unfolding. It also accentuates the need for multi-disciplinary research and development, as well as closer working relationships between multiple stakeholders incl. industry, academic, and governments.
