On November 19, at New Sun Student Center B101, you are invited to join a cultural feast filled with Italian flair.

Every February, as the breath of spring spreads across the European continent, Venice, the Italian city of water, welcomes its most lively time of the year—the Venice Carnival. This ancient festival, which dates back to the 12th century, is the last celebration before the end of winter and a reflection of the Italian people’s optimistic approach to life. The vibrant masks, exquisite costumes, cheerful music, and dancing... everything immerses you in this unparalleled visual and artistic feast.



Discovering Cultural Heritage 

—Lecture by an Esteemed Italian Scholar: We are honored to welcome a distinguished Italian educator to provide an insightful lecture on the historical and cultural essence of the Venice Carnival. This session offers a unique opportunity to experience the rich heritage of Italian culture.

Daniele Macuglia – Assistant Professor in the History of Science, Technology, and Medicine Department at Peking University and Ph.D. advisor. Dr. Macuglia earned his doctorate from the University of Chicago, focusing on how computational methods have influenced scientific understandings in physics and chemistry. His deep enthusiasm for Italian cuisine allows him to blend academic rigor with a curiosity for culinary history. In collaboration with chef Francesco Bellissimo, Dr. Macuglia has researched and revived ancient Italian recipes, uniting his historical expertise with a profound appreciation for Italian cultural heritage.



Francesco Bellissimo, born in Rome in 1979, is a renowned Italian chef, media personality, and cultural ambassador who has made a significant impact on Japan's culinary scene through frequent appearances on Japanese television. Since 2017, he has collaborated with Professor Daniele Macuglia to bring the rich history of Italian cuisine to a global audience. Together, they have revived traditional recipes from ancient Rome, sharing this culinary heritage with audiences worldwide.



—Savor Authentic Italian Flavors: An Italian chef will prepare the traditional Italian snack, Pignolata, offering attendees a taste of genuine Italian cuisine while sharing the delightful stories behind this classic dish.


Carnival Experience

—Mask Experience: A variety of Venetian-style masks will be available for attendees to try on, allowing an immersive experience of the festive spirit.—Immersive Atmosphere: The event space will be thoughtfully decorated to recreate the lively streets of Venice during the carnival, complete with music, dance, and cuisine, making you feel as though you are part of the real celebration.

—Specialty Dishes: In addition to freshly prepared snacks on site, we have carefully curated a selection of classic Italian snacks and beverages to satisfy your taste buds.
