Abstract:
This research focuses on how agility manifests in the collaborative digital product innovation process in Swedish video gaming industry. It aims to shed light on an agile digital product innovation process to examine how different agile activities influence innovation commercialization success. While the concept of agility in innovation management has received increasing attention, the theorization of how it is implemented in a collaborative innovation process remains relatively unexplored. The research aims to achieve theory elaboration by probing the conceptual framework derived from the literature and exploring the causality using both structural equation modeling (SEM) and qualitative comparative analysis (QCA) to probe the survey data collected from 138 collaborating innovation processes in the Swedish video gaming industry. Overall, the empirical evidence points to the importance of embracing the unexpected in the digital product innovation process and that problem solving and improvisation with a key collaborative partner are important for the successful commercialization of an innovation.
