Abstract:
The brain plays a key role in orchestrating whole-body metabo-lism. However, brain pathways that couple the body's energy needs with nutrient intake and endogenous nutrient output are vulnerable to dysregulation in metabolic disorders including resistance. This talk will introduce how the brain contributes to the regulation of glucose and energy metabolism in normal physiology and will focus on the actions of several hormones within the brain that regulate glucose metabolism in health and in insulin resistant animal models.
