Abstract: Jointly organized by Peking University Convention Center and PKU Office of International Relations, this art workshop is led by Shi Xiaming, a distinguished Kunqu artist and recipient of the Plum Performance Award. The session explores the core characteristics of Kunqu as well as the fundamental techniques of the “Four Skills and Five Means.” Participants will gain practical insight into Kunqu's role types, such as the xiaosheng (young male lead). The workshop will feature demonstrations and an analysis of both classic and modern works, including Qu Qiubai. Interactive segments will also allow participants to appreciate Kunqu's performance logic and expressive depth. Conducted in both Chinese and English, the workshop offers a unique opportunity to experience the tradition and innovation of this classical art form.
