PKU 2010 On-campus Job Recruiting Opens
Mar 14, 2010

Peking University. Beijing. March 12, 2010: An on-campus job recruiting fair was held on March 11th at May 4th Sports Center in Peking University. As the largest of its kind for 2010 graduates, the recruiting fair attracted over 8000 PKU and nearby university students as well as more than 220 employers from all over China with 7000 positions provided.

School leaders paid great attention to the recruiting process. A team was set up to ensure the project proceeded smoothly. Announcements and employers’ information were posted online beforehand to assist students with their interview preparations.

Prestigious employers and diverse locations

Employers from diverse industries visited the campus. Organizations covering the fields of higher education and research institute, information technology, energy and chemical engineering, cultural industry, medicine, mechanical manufacturing, wholesale and retails, financial/banking and real estate offered plenty of job opportunities. Among the employers, prestigious state-owned enterprises, government and public institutions took up about 45 percent. Some multinational corporations even offered positions abroad and opportunities for self-development. Employers came from diverse cities, including some remote places in middle and west China like Xinjiang and Sichuan. Job opportunities also clustered in East Coastal cities. Some companies like China Petrol and local governments in Zhejiang, Jiangxi and Hunan participated the recruiting collectively. Some organizations had joined the recruiting fair for multiple years.

The on-campus recruiting is exciting. Some graduates found a job immediately. Interviews with the job-seekers showed that most of the students had proper self-assessment and rational expectations of the jobs. They were optimistic about the job offers they could receive.

It should be pointed out that PKU advised its students to start from the base levels, in the west of the country and in important sectors to begin their career. Many students had responded to the call. Their outstanding abilities and dedications to work greatly impressed the employers and many of them returned to PKU to find more students like this.

More tools used to expand job opportunities

PKU has taken all kinds of measures to help its students get jobs. It is said that the school will have 3197 undergraduates and 6565 graduating graduates this summer. Up till the end of February, more than 230 on-campus recruiting fairs had been held. On top of that, over 1000 jobs and internship related announcements were posted by the Career Services offering over 25,000 jobs. This indicates the economy is reviving and employment policies are effective.

PKU will continue to take effective and practical measures to facilitate employment. It plans to improve the career service system and set up employment recording for every student graduated. By interviewing students of different majors one by one, the Career Services hoped to seek out different needs and provide personal job services. The school will also keep up with the labor market and spare no effort to expand job opportunities. In addition, lowest job guarantees were employed to ensure everyone can find a job.
