Peking University, May 30, 2011: Aiming at high-tech achievements transformation and entrepreneurship encouragement, the launching ceremony of the 2011 China University Technology Entrepreneurship Competition (UTEC) was held at Peking University (PKU) on May 28.

Sponsored by the PKU Venture Capital Association (VCA), the competition fixes people’s attention on technological innovation and practical values in college students’ businesses, trying to bridge “outstanding universities, ambitious students, and market-perceptive enterprises.”

The organizing committee at first displayed a video, showing the fruits and perspectives of the event.

Ma Weidong, president of VCA, briefed the audience on the history and status quo of the association.

Hou Xiaobing, general manager of Shenzhen Chuangyu Low-carbon Tech Co. Ltd., co-sponsor of the competition; and Hu Shiyong, chairman of Huahong Group, told their own stories —“hardship always stands in the way, especially the growing up of a small business, and what you have to do is to set a clear goal for yourself from the beginning and pluck the courage to pull through. You are expected to shoulder the responsibilities, not only for personal interests but also for our nation.” When they spoke about “never giving up,” the audience applauded.

 “I came to last year’s event but saw fewer people than today’s,” one PKU student surnamed Zhou said. “We are getting more and more aware of the importance of innovative business. With technology in hands, the only drawback is the lack of money which can be made up by supportive enterprises.”
