Peking University, Apr. 28, 2011: Lee Shau Kee, honorary trustee of Peking University (PKU) and chairman of Henderson Land Development Company Limited, visited PKU on April 23.

Enjoying a high reputation as a patriotic Hong Kong industrialist, Lee Shau Kee is laying emphasis on the development of education both in Hong Kong and on the Chinese mainland. In June 2009, he donated two hundred million to PKU, aiming to improve and promote PKU’s scientific and teaching environment. One hundred million was used to support the construction of the new buildings for the humanities departments at PKU. Lee Shau Kee hoped that his donation would help PKU to do better in future. In order to show sincere gratitude for Lee’s generous contribution, the completed building would be named as Lee Shau Kee Humanities Buildings.

Companied by Professor Zhou Qifeng, President of PKU, Lee Shau Kee and his fellows visited the construction site of the building. Though just taking shape, the buildings still managed to gain compliments for its design.

The Lee Shau Kee Humanities Buildings is located in the northeast of Weiming Lake and inside the Jingchun Garden which used to be an imperial garden in the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). Covering an area of more than 20,000 square meters, the whole group of buildings is elegantly designed and shows PKU humanities’ unique spirit. Up till now, the main structure of the building has been completed and starts to enter the second construction phase. It will be completed by summer in 2011. The completed buildings will improve the service and satisfy comprehensive needs of the division of humanities.
