PKU Professor John Hopcroft meets with Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng

Peking University, November 29, 2021: On 18 November, Peking University President Hao Ping, Professor John
Hopcroft, Peking University Visiting Chair and director of the PKU
Center on Frontiers of Computing Studies, led an entourage to the
Ministry of Education to meet with the Minister of Education, Huai
Jinpeng. John Hopcroft is the winner of the Turing Award (1986), a
member of the National Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National
Academy of Engineering, the National Academy of Sciences, a foreign
member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a winner of the 2016
Chinese Government’s Friendship Award.
Huai Jinpeng praised Professor Hopcroft's achievements in the field of
computer science and education. They had in-depth exchanges on improving
the quality of undergraduate teaching, optimizing teacher training,
improving the teaching evaluation system, and enriching partnerships.
President Hao Ping thanked the Ministry of Education for its attention
to Hopcroft's visit. He noted that Peking University has always attached
great importance to attracting world-class scholars for exchange
visits, supporting them in carrying out teaching and research work, and
utilizing their experiences to improve the effectiveness of classroom
teaching and enhance students' innovative ability. Under the guidance of
the Ministry of Education, Peking University will learn from advanced
international experience, further deepen the reform of undergraduate
education and teaching, and comprehensively revamp the quality of talent
training.
Professor Hopcroft expressed his gratitude to Huai Jinpeng. He
introduced his work and life at Peking University, touched on his
observations and reflections on undergraduate education in Chinese
universities, the development of education and teaching work at Peking
University in recent years, and shared his plans to push forward
education reform in the field of computer science.
Relevant personnel from the Ministry of Education, PKU Center on
Frontiers of Computing Studies and PKU Office of International Relations
were also in attendance.
