Peking University, January 21, 2021: The winners of the 2021 Chinese Institute of Electronics Science and Technology Award were announced on January 11, 2022. Among them, the project “Wireless Collaborative Communication Theory and Method” chaired by Professor Song Lingyang of Peking University Department of Electronics won the first-class award for the Natural Science Award. The main contributors to the project are Peking University professors Cheng Xiang, Bian Kaigui, and Di Boya, and researcher Zhang Hongliang from Princeton University, USA.
With the rapid development of the mobile Internet, cellular communication is faced with the formidable growth of demand for data service capacity in hotspot areas. The lack of cooperation between cells and terminals in traditional cellular networks hampers its effectiveness in solving the serious interference problem caused by the dense deployment of base stations and massive access of terminals under limited spectrum resources. This has resulted in the bottleneck of network capacity growth. Targeting this problem, the project revealed a network capacity improvement mechanism and interference optimization theory of cooperative communication, constructed a three-dimensional cooperative channel model based on dynamic scatterer density, and proposed a cooperative relay coding transmission method, providing important theoretical and technical support for promoting the development of cellular communication.
The 8 representative works of the project have been cited 738 times according to SCI. All works were selected as ESI Highly Cited Papers, and one was also selected as an ESI Hot Paper, and won the 2021 IEEE Communications Society Heinrich Hertz Award. The 38 technical proposals of the project have been adopted by 5G international standards, leading the series of TDD anti-jamming standards and becoming the core scheme of cooperative transmission standards.
The China Institute of Electronics Science and Technology Award mainly rewards groups and individuals who have made outstanding achievements or contributions in scientific research, technological innovation and development, promotion and application of scientific and technological achievements and industrialization in the field of electronic information. There are 36 first-class awards for the Science and Technology Award of the China Institute of Electronics in 2021, including 9 natural science awards.
