Olympic Champion Ding Ning Visits Peking University People’s Hospital

Peking University, June 3, 2025: Table tennis Olympic champion, Ding Ning, visited Peking University People’s Hospital in May, engaging in an in-depth dialogue on sports, resilience, and life. A lecturer at the Department of Physical Education, Ding Ning drew powerful parallels between athletes’ breakthroughs on the court and medical professionals’ guardianship of life, showing how both spring from unwavering commitment.

Filled with enthusiasm and excitement, staff and medical professionals flooded Ding Ning with questions such as: “Why did table tennis become China’s national sport?” “How do you balance individual drive and team goals?” “How do you sustain passion through decades of training?” Reflecting on her career, Ning shared: “For a significant part of my life, table tennis has been my constant companion. Competitive sports can teach you that every day brings countless victories and defeats.”

Ding Ning Engages in a Dialogue with the Audience

Reflecting on her Journey from athlete to student to teacher, Ding Ning shared, “It’s a blessing to experience different roles as it allows you to learn new skills and witness a broader world.” During the exchange, Ding Ning’s stories about athletes’ patriotism, Olympic champion’s charisma, resilient inner world, and positive outlook inspired everyone present.

The event is part of the hospital’s 2025 cultural literacy enhancement initiative aimed at boosting staff well-being through the establishment of a three-tiered cultural system encompassing “hospital culture, departmental culture, and family culture”. Earlier programs featured Peking University’s Professor Chu Xiaobo on literature and scholar Li Kelin exploring medical themes in art—aimed at forging culture with professional growth.
