Oct 17, 2025
Peking University, October 17, 2025: Stanford University and the internationally acclaimed academic publishing authority Elsevier jointly released this year’s “World’s Top 2% Scientists” list, where several scholars from Peking University People’s Hospital (PKUPH) were named and selected from nearly 7 million scientists worldwide. Among them, 4 scholars were listed in the “Career-long Impact”, and 15 in the "Single-year Impact,” marking an increase in Peking University scholars compared to previous years.

The ranking selects the top 2% scientists in the world across 22 fields and 174 sub-fields, based on a composite indicator (c-score) calculated from six citation metrics including total citations (NC), h-index (H), citations to single-author papers (NCS), etc. Published annually, this ranking consists of two main sections—Career-long Impact and Single-year Impact—which respectively cover the entire career of a scientist up to the previous year and only the previous year.

This year’s Career-long Impact has 12, 374 Chinese Scholars in total. The 4 Peking University People’s Hospital honourees are: Huang Xiaojun (Hematology), Ji Linong (Endocrinology and Metabolism), Li Zhanguo (Rheumatology and Immunology), and Li Xiaoxin (Opthalmology).

The Single-Year Impact has 31, 685 Chinese scholars, including 15 from PKUPH.

There has been an increase in the number of PKUPH scholars in both sections compared to the previous record set in 2024 when the Career-long Impact had 3 scholars and the Single-year Impact had 9.

In recent years, PKUPH’s talent cultivation strategy has produced a cohort of outstanding researchers, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, leaders in national-level science and technology, and pioneers in Beijing’s science and technology areas.

During the 15th ‘Five-year Plan’ period, PKUPH will continue to implement its ‘One Two Three Four’ project development strategy and department-based talent strategy, increase R&D investment, improve innovation and translation ecosystems, and drive high-quality growth.
