Documentary 'Love Will Remain' Wins Major ABU Award, Highlights Tenderness of Hospice Care
Dec 18, 2025
Peking University, December 18, 2025: The documentary audio program Love Will Remain, produced by China Media Group, has won the People Award (Audio) at the 2025 ABU Together for Planet, People and Peace (T4P) Media Awards, jointly organized by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) and UNESCO.

The program is based on real stories from the Hospice Care Center of Peking University Shougang Hospital. Its recognition not only presents China’s approach to hospice care to a global audience but also highlights the Peking University Shougang Hospital Hospice Care Center as a model of patient-centered care.

The T4P Media Awards include four categories: Planet Award, People Award, Peace Award, and Special Contribution Award. They are presented annually alongside the United Nations Climate Change Conference.  International judges have praised the program for its emotional power, noting that “an ordinary story from China, told with humane sensitivity, can resonate with and inspire audiences around the world.”

The four-month production centers on the final chapter of a Chinese couple’s life together. The family chooses to step away from futile, burdensome interventions and instead embraces hospice care, prioritizing comfort, respect, and meaning. The film’s emotional core lies in the husband’s transformation from insisting on all possible treatments to learning how to let go. Beyond the individual story, the documentary also addresses issues such as China’s aging population, the development of hospice care systems, changing perceptions of life and death, and medical ethics.

One of the most moving segments features the late Dr. Huang Dandan, a key physician at the Hospice Care Center. Her calm, compassionate communication with patients and families, and her commitment to improving quality of life and dignity at the end of life, left a lasting impression. The production team dedicated the award to her, acknowledging her contribution to telling China’s hospice care story to the world.

This achievement has been credited to close collaboration between the production team and the hospital—from topic selection and planning to family communication, interviews, and feedback. Professor Gu Jin, a leading colorectal cancer specialist and a pioneer of the Hospice Care Center, expressed gratitude and urged the Center to further improve its services and afford warmth and dignity to more patients approaching the end of their lives.
