Peking University, February 27, 2026: Eight Peking University (PKU) alumni have been named recipients of the 2026 Sloan Research Fellowship, their research fields running the disciplinary gamut, showcasing the comprehensive academic strength of their alma mater.

Three alumni were recognized in physics. They are Hong Guosong, alumnus of the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering and Assistant Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Stanford University; Liu Xiaomeng, alumnus of the School of Physics and Assistant Professor of Physics at Cornell University; and Lu Wenbin, alumnus of Yuanpei College and Professor of Astronomy at UC Berkeley.
The fields of chemistry and economics both saw one alumnus honored. They are respectively Yang Yang, alumnus of the College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering and Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Wisconsin–Madison; and Wang Shaoda, alumnus of the School of Economics and Assistant Professor at the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
The field of neuroscience saw three alumni honored as well, and all of them are alumni of the School of Life Sciences. They are Wang Shan, Assistant Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University; Fan Linlin, Samuel A. Goldblith Career Development Professor of Applied Biology at MIT; and Liu Shixuan, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience at UT Southwestern Medical Center.
Awarded annually since 1955, the Sloan Research Fellowships are underwritten by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, providing the Fellows with $75,000 that can be spent over a two-year term on any expense supportive of their research.
Often regarded as a bellwether of the Nobel Prize, the Sloan Research Fellowship has recognized numerous scholars who have subsequently won the academic holy grail. PKU has seen 50 of its alumni winning the Fellowship in a span of eight consecutive years.
