Peking University, April 1, 2026: On March 20 in Bamberg, Germany, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation awarded Peking University Professor Jiang Ying the 2025 Humboldt Research Award.
A Boya Distinguished Professor at the School of Physics and Director of the International Center for Quantum Materials (ICQM), Prof. Jiang is recognized for his pioneering work in scanning probe microscopy and his fundamental contributions to understanding water and ice at the molecular level, particularly the quantum nature of hydrogen bonds. Established in 1972, the Humboldt Research Award honors internationally renowned scholars whose work has made a significant impact across disciplines. It is the Foundation’s highest distinction for researchers outside Germany.
Prof. Jiang’s research focuses on experimental condensed matter and surface physics, combining advanced instrumentation with atomic-scale studies of complex systems. He has published extensively in leading journals, including Science and Nature, and has received numerous honors, including APS Fellowship, the Nishina Asia Award, and the Xplorer Prize.
