PKU Professor Chen Peng Becomes First Scholar in Asia to Win the Emil Thomas Kaiser Award

Peking University, April 21, 2026: The Protein Society recently announced its 2026 award winners, naming Professor Chen Peng from Peking University's College of Chemistry and Molecular Engineering (CCME) as the recipient of the Emil Thomas Kaiser Award. This prestigious recognition makes Chen the first scholar based in Asia to receive the award, highlighting the growing international influence of Chinese scientists in protein science.
 
The Protein Society (TPS) is the world's leading scholarly society on protein science, and the Emil Thomas Kaiser Award, one of the key prizes offered by the society, "recognizes a recent, highly-significant contribution to the application of chemistry in the study of proteins." Winners of the award are often regarded as standing at the cutting edge of protein science and biochemistry.


The official website of TPS pays a high tribute to Chen in its award announcement: "Dr. Chen is an international leader in chemical biology, including his key innovative chemistry-based contributions to studying proteins in living cells as with control of time and position. His methods to target specific amino acids and/or subcellular compartments in cells and animals represents[sic] enabling technology for understanding and treating human diseases."

The award ceremony will take place during the Protein Society Annual Symposium 2026 (PS40) in Boston, USA, from July 19 to 22, 2026, during which Chen will deliver a keynote lecture as the award recipient.
