Zhu Shanlu: PKU enhances educational cooperation with UK

Peking University, Nov 9, 2015: On October 22, 2015 (local time), Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the UK Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms Annual Conference in London. Professor Zhu Shanlu, secretary of CPC Peking University Committee was invited as special guest in the ceremony.

Professor Zhu Shanlu delivered a speech as the Chinese representative at the Annual Conference. He first pointed out that President Xi’s attendance of the conference reflected the high attention of Chinese government has paid to the cultural exchange between China and UK. The Confucius Institutes and Classrooms have played an active role as windows and bridges for linguistic and cultural exchange between China and the world. Since PKU is one of the most open and internationalized universities in China, it shouldered the onus in facilitating China's exchanges with the world. PKU has also made important contributions to the construction of Confucius Institutes. Professor Zhu said that Peking University would comprehensively study and implement the essential points of President Xi’s important speech and make more progress helping the development of the Confucius Institutes around the world.

Professor Zhu Shanlu also declared in his speech that from 2016, Peking University would offer full scholarship to five British students every year supporting their study in PKU. At the same time, PKU would provide more opportunities for academic communications between China and UK.

The theme of this year’s conference is “Sustainable Development of Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms.” Chinese and British deans of Confucius Institutes, headmasters and teachers of Confucius Classroom, Principles from academic collaborations and others attended the aforementioned conference.
