Peking University, May 19, 2016: In the afternoon of May 10th, 2016, the tenth plenary session of the twelfth Peking University Council took place at the Administrative Building. Zhu Shanlu, chairman of Peking University Council, Lin Jianhua, president of PKU attended the meeting together with other council members.

During the session, Lin reinforced President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Keqiang’s new requirements on how to nurture students and how to achieve reforms in higher education. Lin pointed out that these instructive requirements have motivated PKU to undertake a number of new methods, which have led to some satisfactory results. Remarkable progress has been made in reforming teaching system, personnel system, as well as governance system. In addition, Lin also introduced the ongoing reforms in the fields of academic research and resource distribution.

Zhu then delivered a work report on behalf of the Twelfth PKU council. He stated that as the pivotal year in the process of building a well-off society in an all-round way, 2016 will be a challenging year. Therefore, it is important to follow Primer Li’s instructions, to learn and more importantly, to implement the spirit of the Third, Fourth and Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee as well as the constructive speeches made by President Xi.

Zhu further pointed out that in the past year, PKU has accomplished four major tasks: First, studied and implemented the essential points of President Xi’s speech at PKU; Second, promoted studies of the “Three Stricts and Three Steadies” principles; Third, improved and implemented “Peking University Reform Plan” and “Peking University Regulations”; Fourth, achieved a breakthrough in solving PKU staff and faculty’s housing problem.
Zhu also expressed his hope that every Peking University faculty and staff shall own a strong sense of mission and responsibility so as torealize the goal of building a world-class University sooner.
