PKUers to Taiwan: A trip for academic, cultural exchange

Peking University, May 9, 2011: A 134-member Peking University delegation, the largest in PKU’s inter-university communication history, is paying a visit to Taiwan from May 8 to 15.

The visit, led by PKU President Zhou Qifeng, aims to strengthen cross-strait cultural communication and enhance academic partnership between PKU and Taiwan's higher education institutions.

PKU Vice Presidents Hai Wen, Liu Wei, and Li Yansong, accompanied the delegation as deputy heads. The delegation consists of famous scholars, professors, heads of related departments and 40 student representatives.

During their stay, PKUers will visit universities and higher learning institutions including Academia Sinica, Cheng Kung University (NCKU), Chengchi University, Taiwan Normal University, Central University, Sun Yat-sen University (Kaohsiung), and Tunghai University. Several academic agreements concerning cooperation in scientific research, sharing experience in teaching and university management and exchange programs are expected to be signed.

Besides academic activities, the cultural aspect is another highlight of the trip. The PKU delegation will hold a series of “PKU Day” activities at NTU. In addition, the PKU Student Art Troup will put on four art shows, feasting the eyes of Taiwan’s university students.

Facing the increasingly strengthened cooperation and communication ties between Mainland China and Taiwan, PKU has in recent years actively engaged in enhancing substantive and high-level cooperation. The experience is so far proved to be a win-win situation. This visit of PKU delegation to Taiwan is one step further in making beneficial exploration for cross-straits communication between universities in the future.
