Peking University, June, 7, 2012: Peking University (PKU) and Guangzhou Municipal Government signed a cooperative agreement on June 4, and thus the comprehensive and cooperative relationship between the two formally kicked off.
During the signing ceremony, representatives of Guangzhou Municipal Government and PKU leaders held a discussion. Zhu Shanlu, Chairman of Peking University Council, welcomed the guests and congratulated Guangzhou on its economic development. He also thanked Guangzhou for its unfailing support for PKU and hoped that such support can sustainably grow in the future. Meanwhile, PKU would continue to facilitate Guangzhou’s development, in which process PKU would also gain momentum for its own construction of the world-class university.

In his talks, Wan Qingliang, Provincial Standing Committee of Guangdong Province suggested that the corporation can be deepened in the following specific aspects: intellectual support provided by PKU for Guangzhou’s modern urbanization; a cooperative platform set up for the application of scientific research results into productivity; well-educated graduates from PKU contributing to Guangzhou’s development; opportunities offered for PKUers to start their own business in Guangzhou; high-level dialogue promoted among leaders.
After briefing PKU’s status quo, PKU President Zhou Qifeng said that this agreement between the two would prove to be beneficial to both sides.
During the ceremony, Framework Agreement on Corporation Between Guangzhou Municipal Government and PKU was signed, together with the Elite Program Plan.
