BAA Inaugural Boya Forum (Houston) celebrates PKU’s 114 anniversary

Peking University, June 4, 2012: Houston Beida Alumni Association inaugurated Boya Forum (Houston) — 2012 Oil Industry Career Forum and Celebration Banquet for the 114th Anniversary of Peking University (PKU) on May, 23. A PKU delegation, led by Wu Zhipan, executive president of PKU and Wang Limei, executive director of PKU’s alumni association, attended the Forum and the banquet.

 

Wu delivered the opening address encouraging local alumni to make great achievements at Houston, the world’s capital of energy. Alumnus Yue Xiaoyong, Chinese Ambassador to Jordan, and other outstanding alumni from both China and America attended the forum and made inspiring speeches covering the topics of the status quo of petroleum, the opportunities it offers and the challenges it poses. The speeches triggered the heated discussion.

“It is such an honor for me to see so many PKU alumni gather here in this forum.” said Huang He, director of PKU Alumni Association of Houston, who expressed thanks for the alumni’s attendance and donation at the celebrating banquet.

 

Wu conferred the medals and souvenirs to the alumni who made great contributions to BAA and scholarship donors.

 

On May 22, Consul General in Houston Xu Erwen met with the delegation. She introduced the development of economy and education in Houston area and hoped that PKU would carry out the extensive and deep exchange and cooperation with local universities and colleges in Houston to advance mutual developments.

 

Background Information:

Houston Beida Alumni Association (BAA) is a non-profit, non-political organization registered in Texas. BAA members include graduates from Peking University (PKU) and former Beijing Medical University (BMU) who currently study, work or live in the Greater Houston area. Founded in 1997, BAA is one of the best-known alumni associations in the area. The goal of the association is to promote the honored tradition of "Science and Democracy" originated at Peking University; to strength the connection, trust and cooperation among alumni; to advance the exchange between alumni and the alma mater; and to contribute the prosperity of China and the development of the Sino-US relations.
