Peking University, June 14, 2012: According to “2012 Asian University Rankings” released by QS(Quacquarelli Symonds) , Peking University (PKU) ranks 6th, moving up from 13th last year, Taiwan Want Daily reported. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology tops the Ranking list, followed by National University of Singapore and Hong Kong University.
QS was founded in 1990 and has established itself as the leading global provider of information concerning high education. “Chinese and South Korean universities have done a great job this year,” remarked the head of QS.
Indeed, the past few years have seen the development of many Asian young, science-centered institutions.
“The emergence of these institutions has been one of the most noticeable trends in our regional and global university rankings in recent years,” says Ben Sowter, QS research leader.
For the first time PKU overtakes Tokyo University in the ranking list. Besides PKU, other Chinese universities such as Tsinghua, Fudan, Zhejiang and Nanjing University also make into this list and rise from their early rankings.
Originally Published in 2009, the “QS University Rankings: Asia” is updated annually and lists Asia’s top 300 universities based on the following considerations:
