Peking University, June 20, 2012: Recently, Zhang Vega, a graduate of the PKU Yuan Pei College, pursuing his PHD at Oxford University, was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Zhang Weijia
Born in an average family in Hangzhou, he was greatly influenced by his mother who was a middle school teacher and his father who was a computer engineer and stimulated his interest in science. Compared with other students, he was rather special for he always learned by himself and was not oppressed to take part in any academic competition titled as “Olympiad”. Thus, he got enough time to study geophysics which was his favorite and had written a high quality paper in this field in his junior year in high schoo.l Therefore, got the chance to enter the Yuan Pei College of PKU without participating in the college entrance exam.
Certification of Zhang Weijia
Outstanding as he is, he has published 27 papers as the first author as an undergraduate at PKU, including 7 SCI and EI papers. After admitted into Oxford University, he further published 3 SCI papers. Because of his excellent academic results, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
