Peking University, Dec. 16, 2010: The 96th Annual Conference of the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) was held in Chicago, the United States from Nov. 28 to Dec. 3. Around 60,000 clinical doctors and specialists in the fields of physics, mathematics, and biological engineering attended this grand conference. Li Jie, associate professor of Peking University (PKU) School of Oncology was awarded the "RSNA Research and Education Educator Grant." She is the first Chinese specialist to receive this award since the establishment of RSNA.
Prof. Li Jie gave a presentation on "Preoperative Breast MRI: Outcomes in Early Stage Breast Cancer" in the first section after the opening ceremony. She was the first and only Chinese specialist to give the report at this important section. At another panel session with the topic of breast, Prof. Li presented a report on the status of breast cancer in China and was well-received by the participants.
Background:
RSNA was established in 1915 and is a professional membership society committed to excellence in patient care through education and research. More than 41,000 medical imaging professionals are members of RSNA, including radiologists, radiation oncologists, medical physicists, and allied scientists. RSNA hosts the world's largest annual medical conference, which starts the last Sunday of November in Chicago.
RSNA Research and Education Foundation provides research and education grants to young investigators, with the aim of supporting education and research related to oncology, promoting the experimentation of oncology, and thereby raising the care for patients in this area. Since its establishment in 1984, it has supported 800 researchers in North America with nearly US$30mn worth of funding, which has led to US$90bn worth of grants for radiology education and research, thus creating a tremendous impact in the development of radiology.
