Peking University, June 29, 2021: A symposium centering on the external work of the Communist Party of China (CPC) in the past 100 years was held recently at Peking University. The event was co-organized by the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, People’s Daily and Peking University. More than 100 representatives from central departments, local foreign affairs offices, key universities and research institutions attended the conference and delivered speeches.
PKU President Hao Ping extended a warm welcome to the distinguished guests. He said this year marks the centenary of the CPC’s founding and external work. Over the past 100 years, the CPC members of Peking University have spared no effort to advance national independence and liberation. Moreover, Marxist studies at Peking University has obtained a series of achievements by promoting cooperation between the CPC and the world as well as fostering talent of the next generation.
Song Tao, minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, said reviewing the brilliant achievements of the Party's external work made in the past 100 years is of great significance. To ensure the success of the study of the Party’s external work in the new era, Song said we need to have a deep understanding of President Xi’s important statement of the Party’s external work, grasp the profound changes in the relationship between the CPC and the world, and have an in-depth understanding of the duties and missions of the Party's external work in the new era.
PKU Council Chair Qiu Shuiping said Peking University has a profound revolutionary tradition, and had accumulated valuable resources for carrying out CPC’s foreign theory and policy research. The Tomb of Edgar Snow by Weiming Lake at Peking University is inscribed with the history of the CPC entering the global public consciousness. Snow’s book titled Red Star Over China has attracted a large number of patriotic young people to Yan’an in order to march towards the revolutionary road. It has also attracted many international anti-fascist fighters such as Canadian doctor Henry Norman Bethune and Indian doctor Dwarkanath Kotnis to come to China to participate in the Chinese people's struggle against aggression.
