Peking University, January 11, 2023: Egypt’s Ambassador to China, Assem Hanafi, visited Peking University with his delegation on January 9, 2023, as he was received by Vice President of Peking University, Sun Qingwei, at Linhuxuan.

Sun welcomed the arrival of Ambassador Hanafi and his delegation while also expressing his gratitude to the Egyptian Embassy in China for its long-term support to Peking University. He stated that Peking University has a long and extensive academic exchange and cooperation with the Egyptian higher education community, which brings forth a positive impact on the development of the longstanding friendly relations between China and Egypt. 

In the future, Peking University will strive to deepen the exchange and cooperation with the Egyptian Embassy in China and Egyptian universities, strengthen academic exchanges and the construction of relevant disciplines, so as to make greater contributions to promoting the academic and cultural exchanges between China and Egypt and consolidating the friendly relations between the two parties, Sun added.

Ambassador Hanafi expressed his appreciation to Peking University for its invitation and reception, and went on to highly praise the fruitful results of exchange and cooperation between Peking University and Egyptian universities. He pointed out that the focus of current Egypt-China exchange is development, and that the cooperation between Peking University and Egyptian universities enjoy broad prospects. The Egyptian Embassy in China is willing to facilitate the continuous expansion of bilateral exchanges and cooperation from language and literature research, area studies, to cultural relics preservation, clean energy, high-tech and multi-disciplines, for the purpose of injecting a new impetus into the mutual learning between two countries, the ambassador said.

The meeting was also accompanied by Secretary of the Party Committee of Peking University School of Foreign Languages, Li Shujing, Vice Dean of the School of Foreign Languages, Fu Zhiming, Deputy Director of the Center for Excellent Teaching and Learning, Lin Fengmin, Dean of the Arabic Department of the School of Foreign Languages, Wu Bingbing, and Deputy Director of the Office of International Relations, Zheng Ruqing.

After the meeting, Ambassador Hanafi and his delegation visited the King Abdulaziz Public Library Branch in Peking University and had in-depth exchanges with the professors of the Arabic Department of the Peking University School of Foreign Languages on relevant academic research, mutual visits among scholars, and the sending of more international students.
