Peking University, June 5, 2023: President of Peking University (PKU) Gong Qihuang led a delegation on a visit to Thailand with the aim of strengthening academic collaborations and fostering cultural exchanges between PKU and renowned Thai institutions. During the stay from May 28 to 31, 2023, the delegation attended several key events and held meetings with various distinguished personnel. 

On May 29, President Gong visited Mahidol University (MU), where he engaged in discussions with MU President Banchong Mahaisavariy, and took the opportunity to renew the academic exchange agreement between PKU and MU.

On May 30, the delegation proceeded to Chulalongkorn University (CU) to attend the joint ceremony for the opening of the Chinese Cultural Activity Center, as well as the unveiling of the Global Model Confucius Institute. The delegation was warmly welcomed by CU President Bundhit Eua-arporn. 

The ceremony represented the remarkable milestones of the Confucius Institute of Chulalongkorn University (CICU) in promoting Chinese language teaching in Thailand and enhancing people-to-people exchanges. It not only showcased the fruitful cooperation between the two prestigious universities but was also a testament to the friendly exchanges between China and Thailand. 

Following the ceremony, President Gong and President Bundhit Eua-arporn participated in the CICU Council meeting, discussing matters related to the development of CICU. Before the meeting, the renewal ceremony of the academic exchange agreement between PKU and CU was also held.

Additionally, the visit included an honorary meeting with Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand, a revered figure known for her longstanding connection with PKU as an alumna, as well as a meeting with the Chinese Ambassador to Thailand, Han Zhiqiang. 



The delegation’s meetings in Thailand represented a significant step in PKU’s “Global Engagement Year,” serving not only to deepen the bonds between PKU and its Thai counterparts, but also further contribute to Sino-Thai cooperation.
