Peking University, October 26, 2023: Erika H. James, the dean of the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), visited the Peking University Guanghua School of Management (GSM) on Oct. 19, 2023. Liu Qiao, the dean of GSM, welcomed Erika James and her delegation during a seminar between the two schools.

The seminar kicked off on a friendly note as both sides recounted the history of cooperation between the two schools, dating back to 2007. After signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on strategic cooperation, GSM and Wharton School established a long-term strategic partnership, which has opened up opportunities for faculty and student exchanges, mutual visits, joint research, joint international consulting projects, and collaborative executive programs. These opportunities would provide a rich and diversified learning experience for the faculty and students of both schools.

Liu introduced GSM’s current efforts in talent cultivation, academic research, and internationalization. He said that the school is focused on topics including macroeconomics and national development strategy, industrial upgrading, carbon neutrality, and other major issues. Other than these, GSM is also conducting cutting-edge business practice and policy research, and inputting those results into the classroom to improve the quality of teaching.

James, who was visiting China for the first time in her role as the dean of Wharton School, thanked GSM for its warm reception. She proceeded to share Wharton’s teachings and research progress in Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance (ESG), digital economy, and new technologies.

The two schools discussed in-depth a new model of international cooperation at the higher education level, and agreed on consolidating existing cooperation mechanisms as well as exploring new avenues for deeper exchanges.

After the seminar, James met with four students from Wharton who are participating in an exchange program at GSM.
