Italian Ambassador to China Massimo Ambrosetti visits Peking University

Peking University, November 23, 2023: The Italian Ambassador to China Massimo Ambrosetti visited Peking University (PKU) on Nov. 16, along with the First Counsellor Ginevra Oliva, Cultural Counsellor Federico Roberto Antonelli, and Science and Technology Counsellor Alessandra Guidi, from the Italian embassy. PKU Vice President Fang Fang met with the ambassador and his delegation at Linhuxuan.
The meeting was also attended by Professor Cheng Mo from PKU’s School of Foreign Languages (SFL), Professor Chen Ming, dean of the SFL, and Li Yun, director of the Office of International Relations at PKU.
Fang Fang welcomed Massimo Ambrosetti and his delegation. He pointed out that Peking University had a long history of exchanges with Italy in the field of higher education and culture. In recent years, Fang noted, PKU had established good cooperation with Italian universities and research institutions and had opened up multi-disciplinary and multi-faceted cooperation projects.
Peking University stood ready to further promote communication between China and Italy and deepen its exchanges with Italian institutions in the Italian language, Mediterranean regional studies, Sino-Italian culture, and other fields, Fang added.
Massimo Ambrosetti said that the relations between Italy and China constituted one of the most important bilateral relations, with educational cooperation being the basis of Italy-China relations.
In the post-COVID-19 era, the ambassador stressed, the resumption and further expansion of international exchanges would be of far-reaching significance to promoting understanding between countries and building a new type of international relations.
After the meeting, the ambassador and his delegation had a discussion with teachers and students from the School of Foreign Languages.
