Peking University, November 30, 2023: Henry Kissinger, former U.S. secretary of state who helped "break the ice" between Beijing and Washington in the early 1970s, passed away on Nov. 29, 2023 (ET), according to the Kissinger Associates, Inc. He was 100.
Dr. Kissinger visited China over 100 times, during which he set foot in Peking University (PKU) multiple times in a span of over 22 years. Over the past two decades, Dr. Kissinger had also engaged with teachers and students from PKU in various forms. PKU News is publishing a collection of photos from the archives to remember Dr. Kissinger.
△ On March 21, 2001, Dr. Kissinger paid his first visit to Peking University and held conversations with PKU teachers and students.
△ On May 17, 2005, Dr. Kissinger sat down to talk with students at Peking University during his trip to China.
△ On October 10, 2006, Dr. Kissinger received an honorary doctorate from Peking University and delivered a speech at the University.
△ On August 5, 2008, on the eve of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, Dr. Kissinger gave a guest speech at the "What Makes a Champion" forum, which was hosted by Peking University at the Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center.
△ On January 15, 2012, Dr. Kissinger held conversations with teachers and students from Peking University, touching upon topics ranging from history and education to U.S.-China relations.
△ On November 8, 2018, Dr. Kissinger held an hour-long dialogue with students at Peking University, in which he reviewed his bond with the University and shared his insights on U.S.-China relations.
△ On November 23, 2019, Dr. Kissinger visited Peking University and participated in a discussion session with teachers and students at the University.
△ On March 2, 2022, Dr. Kissinger met with Wang Jisi, a professor from the PKU School of International Studies, to discuss international affairs and U.S.-China relations.
"I enjoy coming to Peking University," Kissinger said during his visit to the University back in 2018. "The students are lovely and dedicated, making efforts for the fulfillment of their life."
