Peking University, December 6, 2023: Ian White, president of the University of Bath, visited Peking University (PKU) on the afternoon of Dec. 5, 2023. PKU President Gong Qihuang met with Ian White, accompanied by PKU Vice President Fang Fang. 

At the meeting, Gong Qihuang extended his welcome to Ian White and emphasized the deep foundation of exchanges and cooperation between Peking University and British universities and research institutions. 

In the face of the current world circumstances, it is of great significance to strengthen Sino-British exchanges in humanities education, which would help promote not only mutual understanding between the two nations but also their joint efforts to address global challenges, Gong said. 

In his speech, Gong also underscored that Peking University would further facilitate cooperation with British universities, including the University of Bath, to cultivate more high-level talents and contribute wisdom and strength to solve global challenges.


Ian White expressed his gratitude to Peking University for the invitation. He introduced the recent development and characteristics of the University of Bath, as well as its prospect of cooperation with Peking University in postdoctoral training programs and student exchanges, etc. 

Ian hoped that the two sides would deepen exchanges, expand areas of cooperation, strengthen interdisciplinary teaching and research cooperation, increase support for cooperation between faculties, departments, and students, and promote the relationship between the two sides to a new level. 

Also present at the meeting were the Global Chair Professor at the University of Bath, Tianhong Cui, and the Director of the Office of International Relations at Peking University, Li Yun.
