King's College London delegation visits Peking University

Peking University, September 12, 2024: Recently, Shitij Kapur, president of King’s College London (KCL), led a delegation to visit Peking University (PKU).

During a meeting with the delegation, Academician Qiao Jie, executive vice president of PKU and president of the Peking University Health Science Center (PKUHSC), emphasized the strong foundation of cooperation between the two institutions in scientific research and talent development. She also expressed her hope that this collaboration would continue to advance medical progress in the future.

President Kapur noted the long-standing partnership between KCL and PKU, highlighting the fruitful achievements in medical collaboration, particularly in the areas of cancer research, mental health, and cardiovascular diseases. He underscored the significant contributions these joint efforts have made to advancing global health initiatives.

Kapur also reaffirmed KCL's commitment to its partnership with PKU, expressing enthusiasm for further promoting scientific research and technological innovation together. He looked forward to working jointly to cultivate innovative talents with international competitiveness.

At the meeting, the two universities announced that the roadmap for the fourth round of the "PKUHSC-KCL Joint Institute for Medical Research" project would be released in Sept. 2024.

Following the meeting, the two sides signed a new medical undergraduate exchange agreement, which aims to strengthen cooperation in medical education and talent training.

Prior to the meeting, the two sides held an academic seminar. Lu Lin, president of the Sixth Hospital of PKU and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, along with Prof. Wang Guiqiang from the PKUHSC Department of Infectious Diseases, engaged in in-depth discussions with visiting experts. They explored innovative models of medical education, scientific research collaboration, and talent development in fields including neuroscience, mental health, and infectious diseases.
