President of UK Institute of Physics Sir Keith Burnett visits PKU

Peking University, March 25, 2025: On March 20, 2025, Sir Keith Burnett, President of the UK Institute of Physics, visited PKU with his delegation. PKU President Gong Qihuang welcomed the guests at Linhuxuan, joined by Vice President Fang Fang and other university representatives.
Gong highlighted PKU’s strong partnerships with over 30 leading British institutions, including University of Cambridge and University of Oxford. He emphasized PKU’s commitment to advancing interdisciplinary areas such as artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and biomedical engineering while reinforcing fundamental disciplines like physics. Recognizing the UK Institute of Physics’ global influence, he expressed a wish for both sides to deepen cooperation with a view to advancing higher education in both countries.
Burnett praised PKU’s achievements in fundamental research, talent development, and interdisciplinary innovation, noting its global reputation in academia and openness to collaboration. He reaffirmed the UK Institute of Physics’ commitment to strengthening ties with China’s top universities, particularly in young scholar trainings, academic exchanges, and cutting-edge research discussions, so as to tackle global technological challenges and drive progress in physics education and research.
