Beijing, May 19, 2025 : Juan Corchado, President of the University of Salamanca, led a delegation to Peking University (PKU) last Tuesday as part of efforts to strengthen academic and cultural collaboration between China and Spain.

He Guangcai, Chair of the PKU Council, welcomed the delegation alongside Vice President Piao Shilong. In his remarks, He Guangcai noted that 2025 marks the 20th anniversary of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership and highlighted the growing achievements in bilateral student exchanges and joint research. He emphasized the shared mission of both universities to serve as bridges for China-West civilizational exchange and called for deeper cooperation in cutting-edge fields through joint industry-academia-research initiatives.

Mr. Corchado expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and commended Peking University for its ongoing contributions to international cultural dialogue. He introduced the University of Salamanca’s strengths in Spanish language, literature, and the humanities, while underscoring the institution’s commitment to academic innovation. Mr. Corchado also expressed strong interest in future collaborations, especially in using artificial intelligence to enhance intercultural understanding.

The two sides held in-depth discussions on expanding student mobility, joint research, and cultural activities. They agreed to establish a long-term cooperative framework aimed at fostering mutual academic growth and contributing to broader China-Spain relations through higher education.

Following the formal meeting, the Salamanca delegation engaged with PKU faculty and students at Linhu Xuan and toured the university’s Institute for Artificial Intelligence. There, they learned about PKU’s recent advancements in smart education and technological innovation.

The visit was attended by representatives from relevant PKU departments and functional offices.
