Peking University, May 26, 2025: Dominique Barjot, Permanent Secretary of the Académie des Sciences d'Outre-Mer (The Academy of Overseas Sciences), led a delegation to Peking University (PKU) last Monday to explore avenues for academic collaboration amid the 60th anniversary of China–France diplomatic relations.



The delegation was warmly received by He Guangcai, Chair of the PKU Council, and Fang Fang, Vice President of PKU. In his welcome remarks, He Guangcai emphasized the deepening ties between China and France over the past six decades, particularly in education, research, and people-to-people exchanges.

Pointing to Peking University’s long-standing partnerships with French universities, He Guangcai expressed expectation that the two universities deepen cooperation in the humanities, social sciences, and interdisciplinary research, as part of efforts of enhancing scholar exchanges and promoting mutual learning among civilizations.

In response, Barjot thanked PKU for its hospitality and reaffirmed the Academy’s mission of promoting cross-cultural and interdisciplinary cooperation to address shared global challenges. 

Barjot expressed hope that two sides deepen cooperation in history, anthropology, geography, etc., as part of efforts to expand intercultural understanding and to contribute to bilateral relations.

Also present at the meeting were Du Yue, Secretary-General of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations, and Qin Changwei, Secretary-General of the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO, underscoring the broader international significance of the visit.

The exchange marks a renewed commitment by both institutions to fostering intellectual collaboration and civilizational dialogue between China and France.
