Eighteen PKU’s branches of studies top 1% in ESI
Mar 19, 2012

Peking University, March 16: After Economics & Business entered top 1% in July 2007, Agricultural Sciences has also become the top according to the latest ESI (Essential Science Indicators) figures–137 thesis have been kept and cited for 940 times in the past ten years, marking the 18th branch of studies of Peking University to be top 1% around the globe.

ESI’s division of areas of study is different from that of China Ministry of Education. Based on thousands journals in SCI and SSCI, all documents are divided into 22 areas. According to ESI, besides those agricultural journals we are familiar with, Agricultural Sciences also refer to a great variety of non-agricultural journals. The non-agricultural journals include 14 chemistry-related journals, 11 biological and micro-biological journals, as well as 7 journals on medicine, education and gerontology. The reason for ESI including those journals is that they contain subjects teetering on the border between agriculture and non-agriculture.

ESI data are updated every ten years, based on the indicators of ‘total number of citations’ and analyses on each region and different scholars. Those ranking top 1% are deemed of high international level.
