Peking University Delegation Visits Thailand

Peking University June 23, 2025: From June 9 to 11, 2025, Vice Chair of Peking University Council, Jiang Guohua, led a delegation to visit Thailand. The visit featured activities including a courtesy visit to Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, attendance of the “2025 Forum on Harmony of Civilizations” and the “China-Thailand University Presidents’ Forum”, visits to Chulalongkorn University and Thammasat University, and attendance of the Board Meeting of the Confucius Institute at Chulalongkorn University.

On the morning of June 9, Jiang Guohua accompanied International Confucian Association President Sun Chunlan and Executive Vice President Hao Ping to the Sa Pathum Palace to meet Princess Sirindhorn. Princess Sirindhorn welcomed the delegation and expressed her hope for stronger collaborations between the two universities to jointly promote educational, technological, and cultural exchanges and cooperation.

That afternoon, Jiang Guohua visited Thammasat University where he spoke with Rector Supasawad Chardchawarn about deeper and more pragmatic cooperation in academic fields on the basis of the existing partnership. Mr. Chardchawarn stated that he would soon lead a delegation to visit Peking University to further enhance cooperation in academic development and talent cultivation.


Visit to Thammasat University

On June 10, Jiang Guohua attended the opening ceremony of the “2025 Forum on Harmony of Civilizations.” The forum was also attended by Sun Chunlan; Romano Prodi, former Prime Minister of Italy and former President of the European Commission; Phumtham Wechayachai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Thailand; Wissanu Krea-ngam, former Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand; Firmin Edouard Matoko, former Assistant Director-General of UNESCO; Wang Chao, President of the Chinese People's Institute of Foreign Affairs; and Han Zhiqiang, Chinese Ambassador to Thailand. Fukuda Yasuo, former Prime Minister of Japan and Director of the International Confucian Association, delivered a written address.

That afternoon, Peking University and Chulalongkorn University co-hosted the “2025 China-Thailand University Presidents’ Forum” where presidents from 20 universities in China and Thailand gathered to discuss “Scientific and Technological Innovation and People-to-People Exchanges”. The attendees expressed their expectation that the forum would serve as a platform for future collaboration in areas such as innovation, academic partnership, talent cultivation, and international exchange.


2025 Forum on Harmony of Civilizations: China-Thailand University Presidents’ Forum

On June 11, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, the Confucius institute of Chulalongkorn University hosted a “Princess Sirindhorn’s Chinese Inscriptions Photo Exhibition.” Jiang Guohua and Wilert Puriwat, President of Chulalongkorn University, jointly unveiled the exhibition. Mr. Puriwat stated that Chulalongkorn University has long valued its friendly relations and academic cooperation with Peking University and hoped that the two universities would further expand areas of cooperation and play a greater role in China-Thailand educational exchanges. Jiang Guohua noted that Chulalongkorn University is an important partner of Peking University in Thailand and that Peking University will further promote the construction of joint academic platforms between the two universities.

The delegation attended the Confucius Institute's 11th Board Meeting at Chulalongkorn University. Jiang Guohua expressed gratitude to Chulalongkorn University for its longstanding support for the Confucius Institute. Palanee Ammaranond, Vice President of Chulalongkorn University, proposed the establishment of a China-Thailand research platform.

This visit marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Thailand, and the “Golden 50 Years of China-Thailand Friendship.” It consolidated mutual understanding and trust between Chinese and Thai universities in the field of higher education, promoting cultural exchanges, mutual learning, and enhanced the profound bond of “China and Thailand as one family.”
