Beijing Forum 2025 | Social Value in the Digital Intelligence Age
Nov 17, 2025

Peking University, November 17, 2025: How can digital intelligence be a unifying force for civilizational harmony and sustainable prosperity? Scholars and coporate representatives at a Beijing Forum panel session on November 8 dived deep into corporate responsibilities and China-Japan-Korea cooperation in this era defined by technology.

Wei Chihao, Deputy Director General of Research Center of State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council, emphasized the critical transformation where the "market mechanism is transformed into the driving force of the sustainable development of enterprises." He outlined how AI technology is being applied from competent healthcare to ecological economics, guided by an orientation toward "people's livelihood and well-being." Stressing global interdependence, he stated, "We fully realize that no one can stand alone on global issues," and called for continued collaboration between China, Japan, and Korea to learn from each other's experiences.

The corporate presentations provided a tangible look at this vision in action.

Fu Jianfeng, Director of Sustainable Social Value Concept Development at Tencent, detailed the company's strategy to "create value for users and integrate social responsibility into products and services." He revealed that Tencent's R&D investment from 2018-2024 reached RMB 320 billion, fueling innovation that empowers industries and promotes social sustainability. Quoting Tencent’s founder Pony Ma, Fu envisioned a future where Tencent presents not just a financial report, but "a report of continuously growing social value to society."

Um Jonghwan, Vice President of SK Telecom, delved into the dual impact of AI. While acknowledging its power to boost productivity and improve quality of life, he also cautioned against over-reliance and job displacement. His presentation showcased SK Telecom's balanced approach, pursuing a "double bottom line" of economic and social value simultaneously. He illustrated this with applied AI projects, including visual AI for waste sorting and terrain analysis for post-wildfire reforestation.

Miyagawa Takuya, Director of CSR Planning at Japan's SoftBank Corp., positioned "AI as the answer to social challenges." He advocated for trilateral collaboration between China, Japan, and Korea as a powerful means to create significant social value, underscoring the forum's spirit of international cooperation.

In a roundtable discussion at the end of the forum, the experts explored how corporations can innovatively respond to emerging societal challenges. The dialogue reinforced the forum's core message: In an age of rapid technological advancement, a shared commitment to social value is essential for achieving true, sustainable prosperity and civilizational harmony. The burgeoning cooperation between China, Japan, and Korea emerged as a promising model for turning the potential of digital intelligence into tangible benefits for all of humanity.
