Italian Minister of Culture Visits Peking University to Boost Cooperation

Peking University, February 11, 2026: On February 4, 2026, Italian Minister of Culture, Mr. Alessandro Giuli, led a delegation on a visit to Peking University (PKU). Mr. Dong Zhiyong, Vice President of PKU, received the guests at the new building of the School of Foreign Languages. Italian Ambassador to China, Mr. Massimo Ambrosetti, also accompanied the visit.

Mr. Dong extended a warm welcome to Mr. Giuli and his delegation, briefing them on PKU's recent developments in humanities exchange and disciplinary development. He noted that PKU has maintained close exchanges with Italian universities and cultural institutions over the years, establishing a solid cooperative foundation in areas such as language education, youth interaction, and mutual learning among civilizations. He expressed hope that this visit would further deepen bilateral exchanges and cooperation in the humanities, continuously advancing substantive civilizational dialogue.

Mr. Giuli stated that cultural exchange serves as a bridge connecting different civilizations. He acknowledged PKU's profound heritage in language education and cultural studies, as well as its active role in promoting mutual understanding between Italy and China. He expressed Italy's willingness to maintain close contact with PKU and to support the expansion of cooperation in language, culture, youth exchanges, and other fields.

During the visit, the delegation toured the library of the School of Foreign Languages, receiving an introduction to the collection of Italian-language books. They also engaged in discussions with representatives of current Italian-language majors, Italian foreign experts, and international students from Italy.

Senior representatives from the School of Foreign Languages and the Office of International Relations also attended the event.
