Peking University, April 27, 2026: Celeste Saulo, Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), led a delegation to Peking University (PKU) on April 20 alongside Zhang Xingying, Director of the Department of International Cooperation at the China Meteorological Administration.
The delegation was warmly received at Linhuxuan by Gong Qihuang and Fang Fang, President and Vice President of PKU. In his welcoming remarks, Gong introduced PKU's recent development and emphasized its interdisciplinary innovation platforms. He expressed hope that both institutions deepen cooperation in joint research and student training to enhance global meteorological services and tackle shared climate challenges.
In response, Saulo thanked PKU for its hospitality and reaffirmed the critical role of scientific innovation and university partnerships amidst global challenges. Pointing to WMO's global climate and weather research programs, Saulo expressed hope that both sides would deepen cooperation in scientific research and capacity building.
During the visit, the delegation also engaged with PKU experts and Belt and Road Initiative visiting scholars in discussions on global meteorological governance and international cooperation.
