Peking University, June 20, 2012: Francesco Profumo, Minister of Education of Italy, visited Peking University (PKU) and was welcomed by PKU President Zhou Qifeng at Linhuxuan.

After a brief introduction of PKU’s status quo, President Zhou expected more academic cooperation in Western Classical Studies and Engineering with the counterparts in Italy.
As Minister Profumo pointed out, Italian universities bear similarities to PKU in disciplines and researches. He suggested that they have more contact with PKU in joint graduate cultivation and dual degree establishment.
Professor Huang Yang from the Department of History at PKU presented to the guests the Institute of Western Classics, where he serves as director. Based on its current contact with the University of Rome, the institute would expand it in Latin Language, Rome Studies and other academic fields, with professional Italian scholars coming to teach at PKU.
