Peking University, Beijing, Sep 26, 2009: On Sep 12 and 13, an international conference on German Philosophy and Its Documents and Texts was held in PKU.
As one of the major academic highlights for the Dept. of Philosophy and the Institute of Foreign Philosophy this year, the conference is one of the results of the cooperation between them and Berlin-Brandenburgischen Akademie der Wissenschaften (BBAW). The German delegation was formed with top scholars and experts in the field of philosophy, including directors of BBAW editions of complete writings of Leibniz, Kant, Hegal, Marx, and Engels. It was the first time for the editorial boards of the complete writings of Marx and Engels to ever set foot in China. The Chinese counterparts consisted of distinguished scholars and experts from top universities and institutions in the Mainland China.
The participants held thorough and heated discussions on the following 6 topics during the meeting: German philosophy and Kant, Leibniz’s philosophy and its documents and texts, Marx, Engels and their writings, Hegel’s philosophy and its documents and texts, German philosophy: relationship and text, and Nietzsche’s philosophy and its text.
In their concluding remarks, Prof. Li Wenchao, director of Leibniz-Edition Potsdam, BBAW, and Prof. Shang Xinjian, director of the Institute of Foreign Philosophy both spoke highly of the achievements of the meeting and expressed their wishes to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between Chinese and German academic communities. Prof. Li proposed that besides learning from foreign counterparts, we should also introduce our studies upon western philosophy to German academia. After the meeting, the German delegation will report to the Academy to provide impetus for further cooperations.
The two-day meeting was organized by Dept. of Philosophy and Institute of Foreign Philosophy, Peking University, with BBAW and Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung as co-organizers.
