Peking University, Beijing, October 21, 2009:Supported by the Graduate School of Peking University (PKU), the PKU-Harvard International Symposium on Evolutionary Dynamics was held at the South Conference Room of Main Library on the morning of October 12. The symposium was organized by Prof. Wang Long of PKU College of Engineering, and was emceed by Fu Feng, a PhD Candidate of College of Engineering.
Professor Tang Shaoqiang giving the introductory speech at the symposium
At the beginning of the symposium, Prof. Tang Shaoqiang, Vice-Dean of College of Engineering, gave a brief introduction of College of Engineering. Five world famous experts on evolutionary dynamics from Harvard University, including Tibor Antal, David G. Rand, Thomas Pfeiffer, Daniel I. Rosenbloom, and Michael Manapat, attended the symposium, and Prof. Chu Tianguang also accepted the invitation to attend this symposium.
During the symposium, the five experts gave special lectures on hot topics in this field, such as the application of evolutionary dynamics in cancer, punishment, metabolic systems, evolutionary origins and vaccination. Their excellent lectures attracted nearly fifty teachers and students from PKU, Tsinghua University, and Chinese Academy of Sciences. Combined with their research fields, the teachers and students exchanged ideas and had deep discussions with the experts after their lectures.
A memoir left from the symposium of the organizers and the guests from Harvard University
The symposium has enhanced the exchange and understanding between PKU and other world top research institutes in the field of evolutionary dynamics. It is believed that this symposium can improve the research level of PhD Candidates in the field of evolutionary dynamics, and it can also promote the cooperation between PKU and other world reknown universities.
