Peking University, Beijing, Nov. 26, 2009: On November 18th, the American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) held its annual International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) at Orlando, FL, US. At this meeting, PKU researcher Duan Huiling won the Sia Nemat-Nasser Early Career Award conferred to her by the Head of the Judging Panel, M.A. Zikry.

Researcher Duan Huiling is now a professor at the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering of the College of Engineering (COE), PKU. She graduated from COE in 2005 with Ph.D. degree. She has been entitled to many honors including England’s Royal Society Postdoctoral Fellowship ande Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship in2006. Her thesis was included in 2007 National 100 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations collection and she won England’s Oxford Fellowship in 2008.
Medal for Ms. Duan
Researcher Duan specializes in micro- and nano-mechanics, meso-mechanics, semiconducting material, etc. She published over 50 articles on various academic periodicals around the world which have been cited over 200 times. She was invited to a number of prestigious colloquiums including the IUTAM Symposium.
The Sia Nemat-Nasser Early Career Award was established by ASME in honor of Dr. Sia Nemat-Nasser, Director of the Center of Excellence for Advanced Materials at UC San Diego and Distinguished Professor of Mechanics and Materials, in 2008. This award was designed to recognize research in experimental, computational, and theoretical mechanics and materials by young researchers.
