Peking University, Beijing, Dec. 17th, 2009: Prof. Lin Jianhua, PKU executive vice president met Charles Bantz, vice president of Indiana University and President of Indiana University - Purdue University Indianapolis at Peking University on Dec. 14th. Dr. Xia Hongwei, executive vice director of the Office of International Relations, Prof. Peng Xiaoyu from the Department of History, Ms. Jin Man, dean of the Institute of Opera Studies, and Prof. Zeng Zhi, executive director of the Center of Citizens and Society Studies attended the meeting.
Indiana University and Peking University have long been in a sound cooperative relationship. There have been a series of cooperative programs, such as between Indiana University and PKU Health Science Center, PKU Department of History as well as PKU School of Government, together with the Indiana University - Peking University Charity Society. Both universities emphasized on strengthening interdisciplinary communications, especially on cooperation in the field of opera studies and Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Xu Zaocheng, dean of the Confucius Institute at Indiana University invited the Institute of Opera Studies to visit the U.S. for a performance of the Opera Song of the Youth.
After the meeting, Charles Bantz visited PKU Center of Citizens and Society Studies and Lincoln Institute Center, where he had talks with related professors.
