Peking University, Nov.28, 2011:, A five-member delegation led by president Zhan Wenlong of Chinese Physical Society attended the 27th General Assembly of International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) in London from November 2 to 5. The General Assembly elected the 27th Executive Council and Commissions. 16 experts recommended by Chinese Physical Society were chosen, including Prof. Gong Qihuang from Peking University as member of Commission on Quantum Electronics (C17).

Prof. Gong Qihuang, Director of State Key Laboratory for Artificial Microstructure and Mesoscopic Physics, have original accomplishments in several leading edge areas of physics, such as picosecond science and nonlinear optical effect, which exerted profound influence in the physics field. Many of his papers were published on top Physics journals such as Physics Review, Applied Physics Letter and Chemical Physics Letter. In 2007, Prof. Gong and his research team reported an ultrafast and low-power photonic-crystal all-optical switching based on strong optical nonlinearity enhancement which is then published on Nature Photonics.
As an international organization for high-level academic exchanges and cooperations of international physics circle, IUPAP was regarded as the most prestigious international community for physicists. It was founded in Brussels, Belgium in 1922, and now consisted of 20 commissions and 2 affiliated commissions.
