Peking University, Sept. 30, 2011: Recently, the second Summer Research Projects Exhibition of Joint Research Institute (JRI) in Science and Engineering by Peking University (PKU) and UCLA was held at PKU Yingjie Overseas Exchange Center. Wu Jianmin, deputy director of Beijing Municipal Science and Technology Commission (BMSTC), together with PKU Vice President Wang Enge attended the exhibition. It was chaired by JRI co-director Li Xiaoming and UCLA Professor Jason Cong.
Professor Wang Enge expressed gratitude for the support of BMSTC and JRI in the past years. He reviewed the friendly and cooperative relations between the two universities in terms of academic cooperation and exchange among professors and students, especially the contributions JRI made for the substantial joint work since it established in 2009. Ten years ago, many Chinese students went to US for exchange while US students had worries about studying in China due to language and cultural differences. However, situation has been greatly changed now, since more and more US students choose to further their study in China and experience the rich culture of the country.
Wu Jianmin appreciated the accomplishments of JRI for carrying out the successful and sustainable projects for students. During the past 10 weeks, US students studied and got involved in learning and communication activities at PKU, with a good opportunity in experiencing China.
During the exhibition, 12 undergraduates and two doctoral students from UCLA delivered their research achievements report and exchange experience respectively. Drama named Living in Beijing was shown then, with the students’ excellent performance in their unique Mandarin sense.
The exhibition ended up with great success. Professors and students visited and appreciated the research projects accomplishments in multiple areas of science, engineering, and medicine.
